2. Badr: Combat and the Treatment of Prisoners

al-Aswad ibn ʿAbd al-Asad: wounded and killed while attempting to drink from the water guarded by Ḥamzah ibn ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib

He was struck in the leg and killed after attempting to reach the water.

When ʿUtbah, his brother, and his son requested single combat, three men from Medina came forward. ʿUtbah refused to fight them because they were not their equals and asked Muhammad to send three suitable opponents: Ḥamzah, ʿAlī, and ʿUbaydah.

After again asking who they were, ʿUtbah accepted them.

ʿUtbah, his brother, and his son died after the fighting became concentrated around ʿUtbah. Hind subsequently sought revenge against Ḥamzah.
